Octopath Traveler II - Octopath Traveler II Walkthrough
Chapter-by-chapter walkthrough for all 8 travelers. Covers story progression, key bosses, license unlocks, secret jobs, and the True Ending. Multi-source verified.
Prologue: Choose Your Starter
OT2 lets you start with any of the 8 travelers, but each has a different starting region and Chapter 1 story. Recommended for first-timers: Thief (Throné) or Hunter (Ochette) for early mobility and stealth.
Tip: After Ch.1 you'll be in 'open' mode — you can recruit the other 7 travelers from their home regions and run their stories in any order.
Steal-then-combo trick: Thief can steal gear from Ch.1 NPCs. Save before the encounter, then steal up to 3 items per NPC. The stolen gear often outlevels your current Chapter 1 boss weapons.
Chapter 1: The 8 Travelers' First Steps
Each of the 8 travelers has their own Chapter 1. You only need to play the starter's Ch.1 to unlock open mode, but completing all 8 Ch.1s is required for the True Ending.
After Ch.1 of any traveler, head to the harbor town and find the 8 base-job guilds. Most are unlockable in 1-2 hours of exploration.
BOSS: Chapter 1 Boss (varies)
✓ 4 srcEach Chapter 1 boss is solo for the story traveler. Use their unique Path Action to gain an edge (Guide, Steal, Purchase, etc.).
Chapter 2: First Crossroads
By Chapter 2 you'll have access to 4-6 travelers. Recommended order: Scholar (Osvald) Ch.2 → Warrior (Hikari) Ch.2 → Cleric (Temenos) Ch.2. These open up major locations and 2nd licenses for key jobs.
Scholar Ch.2 opens the Winterbloom Snows — find the Scholar's Guild (house north of bridge) to unlock your 1st free license, then defeat the boss in the Abandoned Factory for 5 Ancient Sentinel Cores (license 2).
Equip the first accessory you find that reduces encounter rate (avoid the '1-step-grind' trap). Save JP for the Scholar's first 3 magic skills (Fire/Ice/Lightning Storm).
Mid-Game: License Rush + Secret Jobs
By mid-game you should have access to all 8 base jobs. Recommended license priorities: Hunter #2 → Thief #2 → Apothecary #2 → Scholar #3. Save Leaves for Merchant #2/3 (300,000 total).
Secret Job 1: Inventor — go to New Delsta (Thief starting town) east side, speak to Anri in the wooden house. Unlocks crafting-based skills (Spring Boots, Crit Mirror, Elemental Bottle, Tin Horn, etc.) that don't cost SP but require setup turns.
Buy a Ship from Partitio's 'Scent of Commerce' side quest (~100,000 Leaves). Sail east to The Lost Isle (Lv.45 zone) for the Arcanist secret job. Defeat the whirlpool boss en route.
Apothecary's 5-ingredient Concoction (调和) is THE party engine. 0 BP = 2 ingredients, +1 BP per extra (up to 5). Combine with Merchant's BP Eater for infinite ult spam.
Chapter 4-5: Story Climax
Chapter 4 unlocks the Crossed Paths (inter-character side stories) — there are 4 in total. They grant bonus items and a hidden achievement, and are required for the True Ending's full cast scene.
Chapter 5 bosses are HARD. Stock 5-ingredient healing Concoctions, have a dedicated healer, and break shields with elemental weakness first.
BOSS: Chapter 5 Boss (per traveler)
✓ 4 srcBring Scholar + Hunter combo (Ice Bow + Lightning Axe + Wind Staff covers 4 elements). Armsmaster license by this point gives all 6 weapons to your main DPS.
Post-Game: True Ending + Final Boss
Post-game unlocks: 4 secret jobs (Inventor, Conjurer, Arcanist, Armsmaster), Lv.60+ dungeons, the 'Wings of the Goddess' trial, and the final boss 'Galdera' for the True Ending.
Secret Job 4: Armsmaster — go to Gravell (Wildlands northeast), ambush the guard at night to enter the Armsmaster's house. He asks for rusty weapons to upgrade; bring them all back for full skill set.
BOSS: Galdera (True Ending Final Boss)
✓ 7 srcTwo phases with shifted weaknesses. Bring Armsmaster (all 6 weapons) + Apothecary (BP engine). Phase 2 deals 9999 damage per hit — pre-cast Crit Mirror and Elemental Defense. 5-ingredient healing Concoction on every party member each turn.
General Tips & Common Pitfalls
Save before every boss. 5-ingredient Concoctions are your best friend. Don't sleep on 'Encounter Down' accessories — they cut grind time by 50%+.
Don't skip the NPC duels! Many of the best Warrior/Apo/Scholar skills (Wind Howling Rain, Onslaught Strike, etc.) come from fighting specific NPCs. The Skill SP cost of these often makes them better than EX skills.
Endgame meta team: Warrior (sub Armsmaster) + Scholar (sub Hunter) + Apothecary (sub Merchant) + Cleric (sub Dancer). Covers all 6 weapons, all 4 elements, BP engine, and full team healing.
